UK wine merchant chains are already out of stock which aside from 2016 being a vintage year, the value of vintage ports is rising dramatically.
Dow’s 2007 and 2011 vintages have increased 130% and 211% respectively since their release.
“The 2016 Vintage Port declaration has been well received by our private customers with several of the wines including Graham and Dow selling out immediately,” said Tom Hudson, Director, Farr Vintners.
“The outstanding quality of the 2016 wines and the sensible price levels have proved attractive to buyers at a time when many have passed on buying the very fully priced 2017 Bordeaux en primeurs.”
For the first time Symington vintage port labels carry the number of cases produced and each bottle now has a unique code engraved in the glass to prevent fraud and improve traceability.
The Symingtons have been port producers for five generations since 1882 and today, seven Symingtons work across their four port houses: Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s.
