Paul Symington said: “We plan to continue the tradition of bottling top quality single estate DOC wines under the Quinta de Roriz and Prazo de Roriz labels as well as Vintage Port in appropriate years. Quinta de Roriz will become the home of Chryseia our successful joint venture with the Prats family of Bordeaux.”
From the 2009 harvest it is Prats & Symington’s intention that Chryseia should source part of its grapes from Roriz and be made at the Roriz winery. The first Chryseia was made in 2000.
The Symington family's association with Quinta de Roriz dates back ten years to 1998 when we originally formed a partnership with Joao van Zeller, a cousin of the family and the former owner of the property. The Symington family's viticultural team was largely responsible for the extensive renovation of the vineyard over the last decade.
Symington added: “Our technical team was also responsible for the building of a new state of the art DOC winery at the Quinta in 2004. We know the vineyard and the wines it produces intimately, and we are confident that it will now enjoy a new era of greatness under the guidance of the Symington family in conjunction with our partner Bruno Prats.”
