Kumala sponsors Botham’s charity walk in South Africa

09 December, 2015

Kumala, the leading South African wine brand is the official wine sponsor of Sir Ian Botham’s eight day charity walk across South Africa, dubbed ‘Beefy Walking the Rainbow Nation’.

The walk kicks off tomorrow (December 10) at Llandudno beach, Western Cape, and finishes in Pretoria on December 17.

This walk will mark the celebration of the legendary Englsih cricketer’s 60th Birthday and the 30th anniversary of his first ever walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End, where he raised more than £1m to aid research for Leukaemia and Lymphoma.

Beefy Walking the Rainbow Nation will raise money for a number of South African charities: Nazareth House, The Chipembere Rhino Foundation, the Kliptown Youth Program and The Waitrose Foundation Southern Africa.

Accolade Wines’ global CEO Paul Schaafsma, Kumala’s parent company, said: “The third day of the walk will be especially poignant for our Accolade Wines colleagues in Stellenbosh, because the journey begins at the Kayamandi Primary School. This school has two brand new classrooms, Kumala has aided in funding for, as part of Accolade Wines 10 year education support program to the township."

Throughout the walk, Kumala will be holding wine tastings for the walkers, sponsors and spectators. Wine will be available for purchase and the locals will be entertained along the way.
