Skin Côntact LIVE! raised £10,000 for charity

11 March, 2015

The Skin Côntact concert last Monday (March 9) at Vinopolis in London raised more than £10,000 for charity, the organisers have estimated.

More than 300 entrance tickets and 832 raffle tickets were sold. The final sum will go to Wine Relief, the UK wine trade’s fundraising initiative for Comic Relief.

The Skin Contact band comprised: Richard Hemming (keyboards) who writes form JancisRobinson.com; Alex Hunt MW (lead guitar), Berkmann Wine Cellars’ purchasing director; Ben Smith (bass) Concha y Toro UK’s communications head; Matt James (drums), founder of Bordeaux Cellar. Anne McHale MW, Berry Bros & Rudd’s wine education specialist and PR Helen Chesshire provided backing vocals.

Singers included: DI’s former deputy editor, Lucy Britner, The Observer’s David Williams, Tim Atkin MW, Joe Wadsack, Ewan Murray, Charles Metcalfe and Anne Jones.

The fund-raising concert was a triumph for Hemming who masterminded the event. He said, “I was thrilled with how much Skin Côntact LIVE! rocked. The band and the singers played and sang their hearts out.

“Social media has been buzzing with positive feedback, which is wonderful to hear – and above all, it looks like we are going to exceed our target of raising £10,000 for Wine Relief.”

The evening was sponsored by the generic body Inter-Rhône.
