The Bureau Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) holds an annual charity auction, called, ‘La Part des Anges’ (the Angel’s Share). This year’s auction, the sixth, raised a record €100,600, and profits from will be going to the Order of Malta, orderofmalta.org.uk, to contribute to the renovation of its care centre in Rochefort, Charente Maritime.
This particular vintage Grande Champagne cognac from Frapin is said to be a unique example from the cellars of Château Fontpinot. The 1985 has long lasting aromas and an exceptional length on the palate, typical of having been distilled on fine lees and coming exclusively from this single Grande Champagne estate.
In 2008 it was blended with the 1982 and 1983 vintages to produce the award-winning Multimillesime No 1, which won a gold medal and trophy in the International Spirits Challenge 2008 and in addition, took the Champion Spirits Prize for the entire competition.
The successful bidder was Thierry Benitah of ‘La Maison du Whisky, who was presented with his purchase by Jean-Pierre Cointreau, CEO of Cognac Frapin.
