22 October, 2015

Drinks International’s Travel Retail Awards were announced on Tuesday 20October at Majestic Barrière in Cannes during the TFWA Global Summit.

Bacardi Global Travel Retail was a big winner on the night, picking up the Most Creative Marketing Concept award for its John Dewar & Sons Fine Whisky Emporium and Best Travel Retail Exclusive and Supreme Champion for its Single Cane Estate Rums.

Pernod Ricard picked up two gongs in the Best New Packaging of a Drinks Brand and Best Presentation Box categories for Havana Club Union and Ballantine's Artist Series Collection, respectively.

The Loop, Dublin Airport, Aer Rianta International was named the Single Location Airport Drinks Retailer of the Year in the Operator Awards. World Duty Free Group scooped The Multiple Locations title and Charlotte Barton, P&O Ferries took home the Drinks Buyer of the Year award.

Justin Smith, publisher of Drinks International, said: “The Travel Retail Awards were created to recognise the importance of alcoholic drinks within the travel retail and duty free sector, and to focus on the innovation within this key channel.

“It is the 'shop window' for many top international drinks brands, allowing them to showcase their very best expressions and limited editions, often with amazing packaging to further induce purchases. Winning a trophy really is an endorsement of excellence and innovation.”

The 2015 judging panel included Justin Smith, publisher of Drinks International; Tilly Holland, public sector marketing executive, Essential Communications PR; Susan Kelly, head of business development category strategy, Aer Rianta International; Raymond Kiersey, general manager procurement, Newrest; and Joe Bates, travel retail correspondent, Drinks International.

Smith added: “In recent years the categories have grown as a result of the evolving nature and new developments in this intriguing luxury retail sector.”
