Recognised as the most complete list of million-case spirits and liqueurs brands in the industry, The Millionaires Club 2015 revealed soju brand Jinro to be the largest brand by volume in 2014, ahead of Emperador brandy - the largest selling brandy - and Officer's Choice whisky - the largest whisky in the world.
There is a new leader in the rum category, with Diageo's McDowell's taking over from Bacardi, while Smirnoff maintained its vodka dominance.
Overall the number of brands selling over a million 9-litre cases is fewer than last year, with many brands in decline in 2014, compared with 2013.
Hamish Smith, editor of The Millionaires Club 2015, said: "The year of 2014 was not a great vintage for the spirits industry – nor the world at large. Spirits sales tend to track to the economic climate; global brands are a unit-by-unit gauge of market health. And so it was not altogether a surprise that The Millionaires’ Club cuts an eroded figure this year, its number chiselled to 169 by the icy winds of economics, politics and war.
"It is a profound predicament in which fewer than a third of the top spirits brands in the world report sales growth."
