Diageo has appointed a digital and e-commerce manager for Europe – a new role created to unify the company’s digital practices and develop a comprehensive digital presence.

Marco Preda was the senior director for e-commerce, business operations and strategic planning at luxury designer, Ralph Lauren.

Diageo says he will be responsible for delivering a consistent consumer message across Diageo’s online assets, strengthening strategic partnerships with key customers, and generating new business. He will also be in charge of growing direct-to-consumer, as well as www.thebar.com, Diageo’s online resource for information and inspiration on drinks for any occasion, on any budget.

Preda said: “Diageo is at the forefront of innovation and there is tremendous potential to further strengthen the business on the digital front. I am excited to lead this talented team to develop a best-in-class digital strategy for Diageo and offer a fantastic, seamless experience with our brands online to both our customers and our consumers.”

Preda is said to have established Lauren’s European digital roadmap and launched the brand’s eCommerce platform in 15 countries across Europe. He led the development of Ralph Lauren’s digital customer experience, direct to consumer operations and multichannel integration

Prior to this, Preda worked for Foot Locker, developing the retailer’s presence across southeast Europe, as well held various executive roles in the pharmaceutical and telecommunications industries.

Diageo Europe’s president, John Kennedy said: “We are constantly seeking new ways to innovate and to showcase and sell our brands in the most exciting, new, and convenient ways possible. The digital world opens up new opportunities for us and we are really excited about the role Marco will play in shaping the future of the company.”

Preda will be based at Diageo’s London headquarters.
