Whisky distillery to open in Inner Mongolia

25 November, 2019

Chinese company MengTai Group has announced the construction of a whisky distillery in Inner Mongolia.

The £3m distillery will be designed and built by David Valentine on behalf of MengTai in the city of Ordos.

“My ambition is not just to produce China’s best quality whisky but one that is globally recognised in terms of world rankings,” said MengTai chairman Ao FengTing to Drinks Insight Network.

Scottish Chambers of Commerce chief executive Dr Liz Cameron added: “This is great news for Scotland and an early win for our new International Trade Partnership programme which our network operates in partnership with the Scottish Government.

“This deal creates a significant opportunity for Scottish supplier’s worth over £3m. We are confident of more investors coming to Scotland as a result.”

As the name suggests, we’ve used hazel wood as the hero of this edition alongside other familiar, native broadleaf trees, including silver birch and oak from our own forest.
