Throughout the competition all contestants will face series of challenges and his year, ‘The Resourceful Bartender’ and ‘Heat of the Moment’ are the two key elements at the heart of ‘The Closed Loop Cocktails’ entry challenge.
The Resourceful Bartender focuses on the significance of sustainability and resourcefulness, enabling bartenders to create a better bar, serve and working environment; while Heat of the Moment hones in on flavour and experimentation, delving into culinary influences.
Between 15 February and 30 March, competitors are invited to submit one cocktail including at least 30ml of any Diageo Reserve spirit from the World Class portfolio to Closed Loop Cocktails.
The competition will then include three further challenges. Firstly an in-bar judging process where judges will visit bartenders across the UK to taste-test their entry drinks. The judges will then choose the UK’s top 30, moving them into the semi-finals.
This stage of the competition will then identify the UK’s top ten, leading to the ultimate GB final, which will take place in June 2018.
The overall winner will be awarded with a prize package valued at more than £15,000 and be presented as GB World Class Bartender of the Year 2018 at the Diageo Reserve World Class Global final hosted in Berlin, later this year.
