Sake Sommelier of the Year announces semi-finalists

The Sake Sommelier Association (SSA) and Academy of Food & Wine Service (AFWS) have announced the six semi-finalists of this year’s Sake Sommelier of the Year competition. 

Jean-Paul Choi of Origami Restaurant, Belvaux; Deepak Elangovan of Hakkasan Restaurant, Abu Dhabi; Miguel A. Hernandez from HKK, London; Raku Oda of Yashin Ocean House, London; Noel Pusch, Zuma Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi; and Andrew Rohm of BLT Steak, Trump International Hotel, Hawaii will attend the semi-final at London’s Westbury Hotel on November 24.

The contestants will compete in blind tastings and food matching tests before six are whittled down to three to compete in the final in front of an audience of invited guests.

The winner of the competition - the only one of its kind held outside Japan – will win a five-day trip to Japan, worth around £5,000.
