Portugal: CDQ appoints new winemaker

28 June, 2013

Portuguese wine company Companhia Das Quintas (CDQ) has appointed John Worontschak as group winemaker on a consultancy basis. He is to oversee production at the group’s six winemaking facilities.

CDQ sells over 500,000 cases of wine per year.

Worontschak’s role will be to work with the separate winemaking facilities to create wine styles for export and to "consolidate production facilities". He will work closely with the sales and marketing department.

Worontschak said: “It is a huge privilege to be asked to work with CDQ. Portugal is making some awesome dry wines and the opportunity to work with a company that has access to fruit from the Duoro, Beira, Bucelas, Alentejo and the Lisbon region is incredible. It is an entire country within one organisation. CDQ is a complex business and I see my role as integrating operations and honing wine styles whilst maintaining respect for the winemaking integrity of each region.”

Worontschak begins in July 2013 in preparation for the 2013 harvest.
