Trappist monk brew available to the UK

21 January, 2013

Beer Direct has introduced an ale to the UK market that has been brewed by Trappist monks.

Named in honour of the beer-making tradition at the French Trappist abbey Monts des Cats – now inactive in brewing terms - the Monts des Cats Trappist Ale is brewed in Belgium’s Trappist Abbey of Scourmont.

Monts des Cats Trappist Ale is available in Belgium and will launch to Sweden in the near future.

It is described by the online beer specialist as: “A rich amber-coloured beer, well-rounded and balanced on the palate, with a golden sheen derived from the finest pale and dark malts.

“Generous hopping provides a balanced bitterness and its floral and citrus aromas meld with that of caramel from the dark malts.  The finish is gently bitter.”

Mont des Cats is available from Beerdirect.co.uk in cases of 24 x 33cl bottles for £53.90 (excluding VAT).
