Suntory Holdings denies Boston Beer acquisition talks

04 June, 2024

The parent company of Suntory Global Spirits has denied being in early discussions to acquire Boston Beer Co (BBC) amid claims.

Japan’s Suntory Holdings was rumoured to be in talks for a possible takeover and “in the early stages” of a deal for the “Samuel Adams owner, which has a market value around $3 billion”, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Both companies share a history as Suntory announced a strategic partnership with BBC in 2021, with the brewery to use Suntory-owned spirits in BBC's portfolio of RTDs and for its Truly Voda, released in 2022.

The deal would give Suntory a bigger foothold in the US beer market, however it has since distanced itself from the reports.
