Red Breast Single Cask

18 February, 2016

Irish Distillers has unveiled a new expression for its Red Breast single pot still Irish whiskey.

Available exclusively through the Whisky Exchange, there are 576 bottles from cask number 30087, an Oloroso sherry butt that was filled in 1999. It will retail for £180.

Midleton distillery’s head blender, Billy Leighton described the expression thus: “Fleshy fruit, figs and dates. There’s a lot of sherry. It’s a bit leathery. There are spices, a lot of herbal with a top note of garden mint. Nutmeg, a prickle of black pepper. Bitter almond/walnut.”

After tasting, he continued: “Some unmalted barley from the pot still, licorice, burnt coconut, ground coffee with a lingering grassy finish.”
