The fifth edition of Tom Stevenson's handy-sized authoritative Wine Report. Basically, Stevenson gets the best people to write the various sections: Clive Coates on Burgundy, Nick Belfrage on Italy and Caroline Gilby on eastern Europe, for example. The at-a-glance sections include an introduction, opinion, vintage report, and best and up-and-coming producers, not forgetting top bargains. For someone interested in wine but not wanting to drown in information, this is invaluable .

Maxxium UK has published a limited edition, 70-page coffee table-style Yearbook described as celebrating the best of the UK bar industry. Although very glam, as you would expect , it is packed with useful information for a budding bartender and has profiles on the great and the good. The downside: the book itself smells funny... like paint.
