Pecchenino, 54, a winegrower from Dogliani, will be required to lead more than 500 member estates which total an area of approximately 9,000 hectares of vineyards, acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On his election, Pecchenino said that it, “shows both a desire for continuity of the work carried out up to now by [predecessor] Pietro Ratti and for the growth of the whole of the Langhe.”
He added that there would be “maximum protection of Barolo and Barbaresco which, thanks to the ability and professionalism of the producers, have made this territory great and drawn a considerable amount of attention to the development and growth of its other wines”.
The Italian Consortium is also responsible for the mass production of approximately 60 million bottles of wine a year and 441,398 hectolitres of wine was produced from the 2015 grape harvest.
