British gin distiller Greenalls is sold in management buyout

09 August, 2011

G&J Greenall, one of the UK’s major distillers has been sold to a management buy out, according to unconfirmed reports.

The buyout from the hotel group De Vere, is said to have been financed by a private equity company led by the former chief executive of Gruppo Campari, Enzo Visone.

Greenalls is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. It claims to produce about 70% of the UK’s gin, supplying UK multiple retailers such as Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury.

The business is deemed ‘non-core' to De Vere’s hotel and venue business.
