Apt 13's Flannery wins Heering Sling award

Mike Flannery, barman at New York’s Apartment 13 restaurant has won the 2013 Peter F Heering Sling Awards at the BCB Bar Convent show in Berlin.

Flannery’s winning cocktail was: Cherry Heering, Siete Leguas blanco tequila, fresh pineapple juice, fresh tangerine juice, fresh lime juice, Benedictine, Green Chartreuse, Dale De Groff Pimento Bitters and Del Maguey Chichicapa mescal mist.

The contenders were challenged to create their own interpretation of the classic cocktail, The Singapore Sling, which is said to have created  sometime before 1915 by Ngiam Tong Boon, a Hainanese bartender working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore.

The other four finalists were:

-   Ben Manchester from the UK;

-   Juan Jose Maillo Garrido, Spain;

-   Anne Marie Sagoi, US;

-   Lucinda Sterling, US.
