Lords to question Jane Ellison MP on Alcohol Strategy

09 December, 2014

Jane Ellison MP will be questioned in the final evidence session of its House of Lords inquiry on the future of EU Alcohol Strategy this Wednesday (10 December).

The Parliamentary Under Secretary for Public Health at the Department of Health will face questions on whether the Government believes there should continue to be an EU Alcohol Strategy.

Ellison MP will also answer whether there is any evidence that the 2006-12 Strategy has had any influence on UK policy; whether the Government intends to commission research into alcohol-related issues; what role the Government believes the alcohol industry should play in the formulation of alcohol policy, the development and implementation of a new EU strategy; and comment on the success of the UK’s Responsibility Deal Alcohol Network.

During the course of the inquiry, the House of Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Sub-Committee has heard from drinks producers, advertisers and marketeers, substance misuse experts and support organisations, policy officials, medical experts and academics.

Jane Ellison MP will give evidence at 10.45 on Wednesday 10 December in Committee Room 3 at the House of Lords. The session is open to the public.
