The Glen Deveron, Royal Burgh Collection from Bacardi’s Macduff distillery in the north-east Highlands comes in a 16, 20 and 30-year-old expressions.
Available exclusively in WDF stores for a year, the expressions are priced at £40.99 for the 16YO, £52.99 for the 20YO (both 1 litre) and £150 for the 30YO (70cl).
Each is said to be made with previously unreleased rare, aged whiskies hand selected from the distillery’s private reserve.
At a briefing today in London BGTR managing director, Mike Birch said: “I think we have something that is different. A 16-year-old is a bold move. It is a big challenge for Bacardi Global Travel Retail. Using Sherry casks, we hope to make this whisky more accessible, particularly to females and to the Asian market.”
The eaux de view is made from Scottish barley and the water comes from a bore hole two miles from the distillery, said marketing manager Stephen Marshall. It undergoes a short fermentation in copper stills followed by slow distillation. Toasted cereal and apple are characteristic notes of Glen Deveron. All expressions display a rich, warm texture.
The Royal Burgh Collection is said to commemorate the Royal Burgh of Banff, the old seaport beside the distillery that was granted a royal charter by Robert II, king ofScotland, ‘Robert the Bruce’.
