McGuigan Wines’ Neil McGuigan, one of Australia’s best known winemakers, has launched what he describes as “the ultimate wine and food matching service" with celebrity chef John Torode.

The Neil McGuigan and John Torode Recipe Collection” uses QR codes on back labels so that consumers can access recipes and wine matches, created by Neil McGuigan and John Torode.

McGuigan, the IWSC ‘International Winemaker of the Year’, has teamed up with friend and fellow Hunter Valley boy Torode, to create what they claim is “the ultimate personal food and wine matching service, which consumers will be able to access from their smart phones or directly via www.mcguiganwines.co.uk.

Launching nationwide in the UK next month (February), the ‘John Torode and Neil McGuigan Recipe Collection’ will see the Australian food and wine doyens going into partnership on a personalised food and wine matching service, geared towards making perfectly matched cuisine and wine available to all.

A promotion set to run alongside ‘The John Torode and Neil McGuigan Recipe Collection’ will also offer consumers an opportunity to win an afternoon cooking master class and lunch with chef and TV personality Torode.

Torode said: “With more people now entertaining and cooking from scratch at home, we felt it really was about time that people were given easier access to clear, simple and fun food and wine matching advice. Neil is one of the most astute readers of the public palate and tastes around and being able to collaborate in this way and with the latest techniques is so exciting.”

McGuigan says they share a passion for taking the “ponciness” out of enjoying food and wine, making it more accessible for more people.

“We know from experience that one person’s food and wine ambrosia may leave another cold and so we were determined to find a way of personalising recommendations to satisfy people’s individual tastes. John has put together a superb range of recipes – dishes that shows you how to deliver in some cases very quickly and with a minimum of fuss and preparation. My absolute favourite is John’s grilled salmon with dill mayonnaise and I chose to match it with our zesty and citrusy Semillon Blanc. That’s my idea of heaven but yours will be different and that is just the way it should be,” said the ebullient McGuigan.
