The Wine and Spirit Trade Assoication (WSTA) has announced that Nick Hyde, managing director of Diageo Wines Europe, is its new chairman.

The WSTA is the lead body for the UK wine and spirts trade. On behalf of its members, it regularly lobbies the UK government over any matters that affects the alcoholic drinks industry, including licensing, tax and duty.

As Diageo Wines Europe’s MD, Hyde’s role encompasses management of wine subsidiary Percy Fox & Co, which markets Blossom Hill and other major wine brands, international fine wine merchant Justerini and Brooks, Bordeaux negociant Vignobles Internationaux and online retailer Quintessentially Wine.

He will succeed Tim How of Majestic Wine Warehouses.

As a member of the Diageo GB executive committee Nick Hyde has been involved in a wide range of issues affecting the drinks sector. He started his professional life with spells at Unilever and United Biscuits before joining International Distillers and Vintners (IDV), where he became managing director of London wine merchant Morgan Furze.

Hyde has been a member of the WSTA board for over 10 years.
