08 June, 2009

A London bartender has beaten 150 cocktail professionals from 13 countries to take top prize in the Calvados Nouvelle Vogue International Trophy. Stefano Cossio from the Dorchester Hotel in London won with his creation ‘Pomme Allure’.

His recipe for an after dinner cocktail ‘echoes the aromas of the Normandy landscape’ with a  blend prepared in a mixing glass of: 6 cls of Calvados, 1.15 cl of peach liqueur, 1.25 cl of Manzana Verde, two dashes of peppermint bitter and an orange twist.

Stefano said,”I was inspired by a classic Stinger and the desire to blend fruit flavours with Calvados which is a great base spirit for cocktails. It clearly worked”.

The Calvados Nouvelle Vogue International Trophy takes place every year in Normandy. The contest is organised by the Calvados Association IDAC and funded by Calvados producers, among them Calvados Boulard, the leading brand in the sector.

Bruno Callewaert, area manager for Calvados Boulard, said: “The Trophy has been in existence now for more than 10 years. Bartenders from the UK feature regularly among the top 3 finalists.
