Vivino app shows English wine reviews boom

22 June, 2017

Mobile wine app Vivino has discovered that the number of English wines being reviewed has increased by 83% since 2015.

Vivino is a mobile app which allows consumers to review and purchase wine from their phones. It has 24 million users who contribute ratings for millions of wines around the globe, and collectively, this database makes up the largest wine library in the world.

“An increase in English wine reviews of 83% is very significant for the industry,” said Adrian Smith, Vivino brand ambassador. “Especially as the British public continue to sit up and notice that the UK produces some lovely bottles.

64 new wine businesses were established in England and Wales last year, up by 73% on 2015, according to HM Revenue and Customs.

Smith added: “If the sector is to continue increasing at this unprecedented rate and really take hold as a popular wine style then it’s vital that industry events like English Wine Week continue to fly the flag for it.”

The Vivino app is free to download and allows users to scan wine labels and discover its tasting notes, access information about the vineyards and read reviews from other users.
