Brazil did not export wine until 2002 and Egypt only started growing grqpes two years later with 20 hectares. Both are exhibiting at the Vinexpo exhibition in Bordeaux this week.
Along with the likes of Madagascar, Poland, Sweden, Belorussia, they represent countries that are exhibiting at the show for the first time.
Brazil now exports 2.8% (10.7 million litres) of its 380m litres and there are six companies represented under the Wines of Brazil umbrella.
The Sahara Vineyards in Egypt, which went into partnership with Gianaclis, a company owned by Heineken, now has 250ha of vineyards.
Madagascar is represented by rum company Vidzar while Poland has grape and fruit wine maker and importer, Bartex. Dionis, a producer of alcoholic beverages is at Vinexpo to boost exports mostly directed to Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldavia and Israel.
Purity Vodka from Sweden, exports to the US and China and is looking towards Latin America and Europe to consolidate its export base.
