No matter the bars that have made up our sample over the nine years of the Brands Report, Johnnie Walker has appeared at the top. During that time, we’ve witnessed a slow movement away from blends towards malts (single and blended) – a trend to which we have had to surmise Johnnie Walker is immune. But we are now seeing the first signs of Johnnie…
It’s all change at the top of the World Whisky league but, it must be said, out of our own doing. Irish whiskey now has its own table, so its brands are absent from this list. It’s not like we’re left with a stagnant category though – whiskies are popping up all over Australasia and Europe, adding to the more established world whisky territories of…
The vodka battleground has long been fought over by Diageo, Bacardi and Pernod Ricard. Diageo’s Ketel One, though, has held the high ground for six years straight in the Brands Report, easily fending off fading competition from Grey Goose and Absolut. This year the Diageo/Nolet family-owned Dutch vodka was found to be the house pour in more than 30% of bars and on the regular…
It’s six of the best for Tanqueray in our gin league – no other has been more popular in our polled bars since 2013. More than a quarter of polled bars said Tanqueray was their go-to gin, with half saying it was among their top three. The Diageo-owned brand seems to have cemented its place as the bartender’s no.1, with Hendrick’s this year taking second spot.
Here we are concerned with what the bartender likes above and beyond the customer and commercial persuasion – you can think of it as desert island drinks. With every spirit in the world to choose from, it’s surprising a collection of brands garners so many followers. Tanqueray has been chosen as the bartender’s top tipple in five out of six years – 18% of polled bartenders…
AS WE SEEK TO IMPROVE our research products, the Drinks International Brands Report has seen some fine-tuning but the objective – to provide a snapshot of the buying habits of elite bars around the world – remains the same. Simply put, the Brands Report is based around a poll of the best bars in the world. We ask bar owners, head bartenders and bar managers…
IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE how the choice of spirits in bars differs from global consumption. The Brands Report has gin as the number one spirit at the high-end bar – back on planet Earth it is outsold by whisky, vodka, brandy, rum and cachaça. Regardless, in the world’s best bars, gin is king, with 48% of those surveyed pouring it as their number one…
Now in our ninth year of polling a sample of the world’s best bars, the Brands Report provides insight into the buying and selling behaviour of elite bars. Each respondent – bar owners, bar managers and head bartenders – was asked to rank their three best-selling products in each category of spirits (plus wine and beer), giving us insight into the brands that are selling best.
The data analysts said the consumer group shouldn’t be viewed as a whole, as older Millennials have more favourable attitudes towards drinking than those that are in the younger bracket. According to GlobalData’s 2017 Q1 survey only 14% of 25-34 year old consumers in the UK would make fewer alcohol purchases in future if there were significant political or economic changes, compared to 33% globally.

In Ardoyne, north Belfast, this was an everyday occurrence during The Troubles. You believed you could be shot from the minute you got up to the minute you went to bed. Even at night, you believed you could be shot in…
