Giusti Wine was born from the vision of Ermenegildo Giusti, originally from Volpago del Montello, who emigrated to Canada at a young age. His dream was to honour and showcase the unspoiled beauty of Montello, the treasured corner of the Treviso Prealps where he grew up. Nestled among the gentle slopes of this “little mountain” at the foot of which flows the historic Piave River, Giusti cultivates wines of strong identity and authentic territorial character.
Among its finest expressions is Oro Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, crafted by the internationally acclaimed oenologist Graziana Grassini. The estate also produces Umberto I Montello Rosso Superiore DOCG, a refined Bordeaux-style blend dedicated to the memory of Giusti’s grandfather, and Augusto, a distinctive red wine made from the recently rediscovered native grape variety Recantina.
The winery itself is a true work of art: designed by the renowned architect Armando Guizzo and built largely underground, it blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. From its windows, visitors can admire the Abbey of Sant’Eustachio, an enduring symbol of the area. It was here, in the mid-1500s, that Giovanni Della Casa wrote the famous Galateo, a cornerstone of Italian Renaissance literature on manners and civility. After a long period of abandonment, the Abbey has been restored to its former splendour thanks to the patronage of Ermenegildo Giusti, who fully financed its restoration and returned this historic treasure to the community. Montello lies just a few kilometres from the city of Treviso, at the foot of the Asolo Hills. Its name derives from its compact, imposing shape, reminiscent of a small mountain, while the Piave River gently borders its northern slope.
The area is home to three distinguished denominations of origin:Asolo Prosecco DOCG, which protects and promotes sparkling wines made from Glera grapes, yielding uniquely expressive results in this region;Montello DOCG, dedicated to characterful Bordeaux-style red wines
Montello Asolo DOC, encompassing varietal red wines based on Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Merlot, and Recantina, as well as white wines made from Bianchetta, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Grigio.
Montello’s soil is rich in iron oxides and clay, giving the land its distinctive red colour. The iron content lends structure to the wines, while the sandstone elements contribute mineral nuances. The climate is temperate, with warm but never sultry summers, moderately cold winters, and rainfall evenly distributed throughout the year.
Giusti Wine comprises eleven estates spanning over 120 hectares, all located within the territories of Nervesa della Battaglia and Volpago del Montello. Seven of these estates are situated on the hills, the other four lie on the plains to the right of the Piave River.
The estates cultivate a diverse range of grape varieties, both native and international, including some PIWI varieties. Sustainability, quality, and product traceability have always been core principles for Giusti Wine, which has obtained SQNPI certification and joined the Bee-Friendly project, transforming the Treviso hills into an oasis for bees during the acacia flowering period.
