Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar boosted its annual production by 4.5% in 2008

Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar boosted its annual production by 4.5% in 2008. The South Bohemian brewer bucked the trend - Czech beer production is down 2% in the same period.  Budvar brewed 1,312 million hectolitres compared with 1,253 million the previous year.

Exports were down 1% mainly due to the strength of the Czech currency against the Euro but at 581,522 hectolitres they still represent the second highest number in Budvar’s history following the record year of 2007. Currently the brewery exports to 54 countries.

Renata Pankova, head of Budvar’s export sales and chairman of Budvar UK, said: “Given the economic development in recent months we are satisfied with the export results and have maintained our position in key markets like Britain and Germany."
