Standing listening last night to The Macallan’s brand ambassador, Joy Elliot, who was conducting a tasting of the new 1824 Series at the Whisky Shop in London’s Piccadilly, I could not resist a feeling of déjà vu.
The Glen Garioch 1997 is the first whisky to be released from the brand’s Oldmeldrum distillery since it was reopened in 1997 after being mothballed for two years.
The new whisky, which will be available at leading European airports and onboard Scandinavian ferry lines, begins a 12-month push by Morrison Bowmore to raise the brand’s profile in duty free.
Quantities of Glen Garioch 1997 will be initially limited to 1,000 cases. The whisky has a recommended retail price of £49.99.
