India: John Distilleries appoints former Diageo boss

India: John Distilleries has appointed the former managing director of Diageo India as its new vice chairman and CEO. Asif Adil will take up the post on September 5. 

Paul P John, chairman of John Distilleries said: “We are extremely happy and privileged to attract a senior person of Adil’s stature. He will spearhead JDL to the next level of deserved growth, incubation of new brands in the premium segment with an International product portfolio along with nationwide and global footprint. The Indian alcoholic beverage market and JDL is at a watershed moment with IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) consumption growing rapidly. I am sure that my management team and Adil will help realise my vision of becoming not only India’s leading beverage alcohol company, but also establishing us as a global player in times to come.”

The company is known for its Original Choice whisky, which sold 8.84 million cases in 2008.

John Distilleries headquarters are in Bangalore, India. The company’s gross annual turnover is Rs.1100 crores.  It has a presence in 14 states with over 2000 employees.  The group also owns and operates a premium wines portfolio called Big Banyan premium wines.
