US: Diageo has launched Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout.

US: Diageo has launched Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout.

This is the first new addition to the US market since Guinness appeared on draught in 1966.

The limited edition release will be available nationally from 24 April.  A 6-pack of Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout bottles will have a suggested retail price of between $7.99-8.49, and this new offering will also be available in draught kegs.

The commemorative stout is carbonated, not nitrogenated like the traditional Guinness draught. As a result, it has a near-white frothy stout beer head of larger bubble size than that of Guinness draught, and is poured on draught in a one-part pour or gently from a bottle (as opposed to Guinness’s usual two-part pour).

Patrick Hughes, brand director, Diageo - Guinness US said:  “The Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout is more than just a product launch, but rather a salute to the great Arthur Guinness; an altruistic man who established an extraordinary benchmark for brewing craftsmanship and social responsibility that still resonates more than two centuries later.”

According to Diageo, the product has a crisp effervescent taste with a balanced malty, roasted, hop flavor that is enhanced when released with a lively, refreshing and smooth carbonated mouthfeel. A triple hop addition regime provides a hint of bitterness.

Fergal Murray, Guinness master brewer said: “The Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout has a different look and taste than anything our fans have ever experienced, but still retains the familiar character for which Guinness is so well known.”
